Well the cable companies promise higher speeds than DSL, but there are lots of factors that can even out the speeds..  Cable has more Max speed possible, (except VDSL which is rare)  , but if there are a lot of people using that cable connection in your area, it slows down cause your on a shared line, those people take away from your speed.   So really I wouldn't base my decision from speed, go with the company with better support
